Hyderabad being developed as global hub for healthcare innovation: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad, June 13 (RAHNUMA): Minister for Information Technology and Industries D. Sridhar Babu said the State government is committed to positioning Hyderabad as a global hub for healthcare innovation by creating an internationally competitive ecosystem that fosters research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Inaugurating the two-day International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare at Yashoda Hospitals in Hitec City on Saturday, Sridhar Babu said AI had evolved beyond a sector-specific technology and was transforming every aspect of human life, particularly healthcare.

He said AI was no longer limited to disease diagnosis and had advanced to a stage where it could predict potential health risks and facilitate personalised treatment tailored to individual patients. However, he asserted that AI could never replace doctors and that technology would benefit society only when guided by human values and compassion.

Referring to the growing elderly population and the increasing burden of complex diseases such as cancer and cardiovascular ailments, the Minister emphasised the need for innovative solutions. He said the State government was working to make Hyderabad a launch pad for next-generation healthcare technologies.

Sridhar Babu underlined the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to ensure that AI-driven healthcare innovations reached ordinary citizens. The government, he said, was pursuing innovation-led strategies to prepare for future challenges and encourage new ideas.

Stating that innovations should not remain confined to laboratories, he said the government was actively supporting innovators and startups to translate research into practical solutions with tangible societal benefits.

The Minister said Telangana had launched the country’s first AI-based Data Exchange platform to accelerate research and introduced the ‘One Bio’ initiative to promote innovation in the life sciences sector. The State had also established a ‘Fund of Funds’ to support startups and strengthen the innovation ecosystem, he said.

Inviting experts, innovators, companies and startups to partner with Hyderabad in shaping the global health-tech revolution, Sridhar Babu assured them of the State government’s full support.
