International Yoga Day celebrated across Telangana prisons

Hyderabad, June 21 (RAHNUMA): The Telangana Prisons & Correctional Services department on Sunday celebrated International Yoga Day-2026 with great enthusiasm across all prisons in the Telangana state under the leadership of Dr.Soumya Mishra, Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services.

As part of the celebrations, yoga training programmes were organised for inmates in all prisons from June 10 onwards with the objective of promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, emotional balance, and healthy living among prisoners. The programmes were conducted with the support of various reputed organisations.

Dr.Soumya Mishra attended the celebrations held at Central Prison, Cherlapalli where a large number of inmates participated in a mass yoga session.

Addressing the gathering, she stated that yoga is a powerful tool for improving physical health, mental resilience, emotional stability, and self-discipline. She emphasised that regular yoga practice helps individuals develop positive thinking, inner peace, and self-control, which are essential for personal transformation and successful reintegration into society.

The Director General further stated that the Telangana Prisons department is committed to the holistic reformation and rehabilitation of inmates through education, skill development, counselling, sports, cultural activities, and wellness programmes. She appreciated the enthusiastic participation of inmates and encouraged them to continue practicing yoga as part of their daily routine.
