
Mumbai, June 30 (IANS) Bollywood star Jackie Shroff paid tribute to legendary music composer Kalyanji on his 98th birth anniversary.
He remembered the iconic musician with a heartfelt post on his social media account.
Jackie shared a black-and-white portrait of Kalyanji and wrote, ‘Remembering Kalyanji ji on his birth anniversary’.
The actor accompanied the tribute with the evergreen song ‘Chandan Sa Badan Chanchal Chitwan’, sung by Mukesh and composed by the celebrated duo Kalyanji-Anandji.
The monochrome picture featured Kalyanji smiling gently in a suit and tie.
For the uninitiated, the legendary musician was born and Kalyanji Virji Shah on June 30, 1928, in Kundrodi village in Kutch, Gujarat.
Kalyanji, along with his younger brother Anandji, formed one of Hindi cinema’s most successful composer duos. Popularly known as Kalyanji-Anandji, the brothers composed music for over 250 films across a career spanning more than three decades.
The duo delivered some of Bollywood’s most memorable soundtracks in films such as ‘Don’, ‘Safar’, ‘Qurbani’, ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’, ‘Johnny Mera Naam’, ‘Upkar’, ‘Victoria No. 203’, ‘Laawaris’, ‘Saraswatichandra’ and others.
Their list of timeless songs include ‘Chandan Sa Badan’, ‘Pal Bhar Ke Liye’, ‘Khaike Paan Banaraswala’, ‘Mere Desh Ki Dharti’, ‘Zindagi Ka Safar’, ‘Neele Neele Ambar Par’ amongst many more.
Not many know Kalyanji-Anandji were the first ones who identified stalwart singer Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice quality and calibre and helped her established in the world of Bollywood.
For the uninitiated, Kalyanji passed away on August 24, 2000, at the age of 72 after battling a prolonged illness.
Talking about Jackie Shroff, he is probably the only Bollywood star who resembles to pay tributes to legendary and important personalities on their birth anniversaries, death anniversaries and other important days.
