Hyderabad, July 14 (RAHNUMA): Hyderabad-based Resplice Autism Research Foundation & Institute has launched a research initiative to better understand and prevent Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis (SSPE), a rare, progressive and fatal neurological complication of Measles that has no cure to date
Founder Chairman Dr Chandrashekhar Thodupunuri said the institute will use a multi-omics approach to identify why only a small number of children develop SSPE and explore strategies for early prediction and prevention. As part of the initiative, a free medical camp for children with a history of measles, suspected SSPE, vaccine reactions or developmental regression will be held on August 9 at the institute in Manikonda, Hyderabad. Three children, including one from Delhi and two from Maharashtra, are currently enrolled in the study.
For the above research initiative, Resplice Autism Research Foundation and Institute is organising a free medical camp for children affected with measles and SSPE. The objective of this program is to systematically study clinical characteristics, immune responses, genetic and environmental factors, and other biological markers that may help improve understanding of susceptibility to SSPE. The camp is being organised on Sunday (August 9) from 10 am to 5 pm at Resplice Autism Research Foundation, Shivapuri Colony.
