
Hyderabad, June 13 (RAHNUMA): A special court for POCSO cases in Hyderabad has sentenced a 19-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor girl and subjecting her to threats and abuse.
The XII Additional Sessions Judge, Nampally, convicted Gummula Nagaraju in a case registered by Gandhi Nagar Police Station in 2019 under various IPC provisions and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.16,000.
According to police, the accused exploited the victim on the false promise of marriage, repeatedly assaulted her and allegedly used objectionable photographs and videos to intimidate and control her. Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s family, police launched an investigation and filed a charge sheet.
Officials said sustained counselling and legal support provided by the Bharosa Centre helped the survivor and her family throughout the trial. The concerted efforts of Police Officers and Officers at Bharosa Centre were closely monitored by Dr. Lavanya NJP, DCP, Women Safety, Smt. Prasanna Lakshmi, ACP, Women Safety, Hyderabad apart from P. Padma, Inspector Bharosa.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar commended the efforts of the investigating officers, prosecutors, Bharosa counsellors and court staff for securing the conviction.
