RTC driver attempts self-immolation at Narsampet depot amid ongoing strike

Hyderabad, April 23 (RAHNUMA): Tensions ran high at the Narsampet TGRTC depot on Thursday when a driver, Shanker Goud, set himself on fire by pouring petrol on his body in protest amid an ongoing indefinite strike initiated by the RTC JAC in support of their demands.

Reports indicate that Shanker Goud was frustrated with what he perceived as the State government’s unyielding stance towards RTC employees. Upon witnessing the flames engulfing him, his colleagues reacted with shock and quickly worked to extinguish the fire before rushing him to a hospital.

Medical personnel are currently treating him, and his coworkers are expressing hopes for his swift recovery. They assert that the government’s neglect in addressing their demands pushed Shanker Goud to take such a drastic action.

The incident triggered significant unrest at the Narsampet depot, with angry workers chanting slogans against the RTC management and the government. As the situation escalated, police forces intervened in an effort to control the crowd.

A substantial police presence has been established at the depot to avert any further incidents. According to doctors, Shanker Goud’s condition is reported to be critical. Union leaders blamed the government and RTC management for the tragic incident.
