Hyderabad, Aug.13 (RAHNUMA): Srimad Ramayanam, a verse epic authored by noted poet and senior officer Shashikiran Komandur, Joint Secretary to the Governor of Telangana, has been selected for the prestigious Suravaram Pratap Reddy Telugu University Literary Award for 2024.
Komandur has pursued his literary interests for nearly two decades while simultaneously discharging his administrative responsibilities.
Written in a simple and accessible idiom while adhering to classical metres, Srimad Ramayanam seeks to present the epic in a form that can be easily understood and appreciated by general readers. The book has been published by reputed publishing house Emesco.
Apart from his literary accomplishments, Komandur is known among his colleagues for his integrity, ethical values and commitment to public service. His adherence to these principles was also evident when he was earlier considered for a Sahitya Akademi Award of the Government of India.
As he was then serving in the office of the concerned Union Minister, he chose not to accept the honour, stating that accepting an award from the department in which he was serving could raise questions of propriety.
The conferment of the Telugu University Literary Award on Komandur has been welcomed by poets, writers and senior officials, who congratulated him and appreciated his contribution to Telugu literature.
Following his selection for the award, Komandur was felicitated at Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad by members of the Group-I Officers’ Association and Lok Bhavan officials.
