Nalgonda, April 29 (RAHNUMA): Asserting that Telangana is setting a national benchmark in housing for the poor, Minister for Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the Telangana is the only state in the country providing ₹5 lakh per house under the Indiramma housing scheme.
The Minister announced that 10,000 houses will be constructed in Nalgonda constituency over the next three years, with scope for an additional 5,000 units if required. He said development works in Nalgonda town are being fast-tracked with a focus on improving civic infrastructure.
Komatireddy Venkat Reddy attended the housewarming ceremony of an Indiramma house constructed by Srinivasa Rao and Padma in the 41st divisionof Nalgonda town on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, the Minister said while other States extend assistance of around ₹1.7 lakh per unit, Telangana’s higher allocation reflects its commitment to ensuring housing for the underprivileged.
“About 700 houses are already under construction in the town and issues related to L2 and L3 categories will be resolved soon at the Cabinet level,” he said.
The Minister further stated that the land is being identified along Devarakonda, Narketpally and Tipparti roads for developing an Indiramma colony, with a final decision to be taken after due assessment.
On a pending proposal for allotment of land to journalists behind the Collectorate, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the matter would be reviewed with the district administration and, if necessary, taken up with the Chief Minister.
On paddy procurement, the Minister requested farmers to remain patient, noting that delays were caused due to high moisture content cited by millers. He said about 50 per cent of procurement has been completed and efforts are on to expedite the process.
With summer intensifying, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said steps are being taken to prevent drinking water shortages, including ensuring supply through tanks, borewells and motors in coordination with civic authorities.
