TELANGANA WAIVES Rs.20,616 CR CROP LOANS, BENEFITS 25.35 LAKH FARMERS

Hyderabad, Aug.17 (RAHNUMA): The Telangana Government has waived crop loans worth Rs.20,616.89 crore for 25,35,964 farmers as part of its commitment to farmer welfare, claimed Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao.

The Minister said the one-time waiver covered crop loans up to Rs.2 lakh, including principal and interest, and was implemented during the first crop season after the government assumed office.

According to the Minister, banks submitted details of 42.30 lakh loan accounts, of which 31.07 lakh were identified as family accounts. Following verification, 25,35,964 accounts were found eligible for the waiver.

To ensure that no eligible farmer was left out, officials conducted nearly two months of village-wise, door-to-door verification. Aadhaar linkage and account discrepancies were also corrected, enabling farmers who were initially excluded due to technical or documentation issues to receive the benefit in subsequent phases.

Tummala said the entire process was carried out transparently, with beneficiary details placed before the Legislative Assembly and made available constituency-wise and village-wise.

He clarified that the waiver applies only to crop loans up to Rs.2 lakh, while long-term agricultural loans are treated separately. The government, he said, would continue measures aimed at reducing farmers’ financial burden and strengthening the agricultural sector.
