The role of RTC employees in the formation of Telangana state is memorable: Sajjanar

Hyderabad, June 2 (NSS): Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) Managing Director VC Sajjanar today said that the role of RTC employees in the Telangana statehood movement was memorable. He recalled that the strike with the slogan ‘Bus ka payya nahi chalega’ had given a breather to the Telangana movement. He said that inspired by the Telangana movement, revolutionary changes were brought about in the organisation. The decennial  celebrations of the formation of Telangana state were held at the Bus Bhavan premises in Hyderabad on Sunday in the city . The company’s Managing Director VC Sajjanar was the chief guest at the event. The national flag was unveiled by him on the occasion . He also paid tributes to those who laid down their lives in the Telangana movement. Later, he received a guard of honour from TGSRTC security personnel.

Speaking on the occasion, Sajjanar said that many people were martyred in the first and second phase of Telangana movement and added that on behalf of the TGSRTC family, they were paying rich tributes to the martyrs on the occasion of the state’s formation day. “In 2011, the RTC employees continued their 29-day strike saying ‘we too’. The general strike was one of the biggest strikes in the history of the country. A large number of 56,604 RTC employees participated in the strike and worked tirelessly to achieve Swarajya. The role of RTC employees in the Telangana movement has been etched in history,” he recalled

He said that the Mahalaxmi-free bus travel scheme for women was implemented within 48 hours of the government’s announcement and added that it was because the RTC employees were working in the spirit of the movement that Mahalakshmi was successfully implemented. “On an average, 45 lakh people travelled every day before the Mahalaxmi scheme was implemented. Currently, on an average, 55 lakh people travel by TGSRTC buses every day,” he said .

He also said that The 2017 wage revision, which was pending for more than seven years with the help of the state government, was fulfilled by them . He said that The company had announced a fitment of 21 per cent for its employees. Nine pending DA’s have been sanctioned, he said.

Sajjanar said that In the last two years, 1,500 new diesel buses had been purchased and made available. “In line with the increased rush with the Mahalaxmi scheme, the management has decided to put another 2000 new diesel and 990 electric buses into use in a phased manner. A total of 2,990 new buses, including diesel and electric buses, will be available soon,” he said

He also said that the TGSRTC management had decided to replace 3 thousand jobs in line with the new buses and added that It had been revealed that they would  be replaced as soon as possible with the permission of the government.

TGSRTC Chief Operating Officer Dr. Ravinder, Finance Adviser Vijaya Pushfa, CEIT Rajasekhar, CTM (Commercial) Sridhar, CPM Ushadevi, CCOS Vijayabhaskar and others participated in the Telangana State Avaratana celebrations. (NSS)
