Hyderabad, Aug.1 (RAHNUMA): Emphasising the importance of collective efforts, Minister for Minorities Welfare & Public Enterprises Mohammed Azharuddin said the government, media and society must work together for the overall development of the State.
He reaffirmed the Telangana government’s commitment to the welfare of journalists and to the promotion, preservation and development of the Urdu language.
Mohammed Azharuddin attended the 10th Foundation Day & Annual Awards Ceremony of the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists’ Federation (TUWJF) at the Media Academy of Telangana, Nampally, Hyderabad on Saturday.
Addressing a large gathering of senior journalists, media professionals and distinguished guests from across Telangana, the Minister described journalism as a noble and sacred profession, stating that journalists occupy a place of great respect in society and play a vital role in strengthening democracy by keeping the public informed.
Recalling his journey from international cricket to public service, Mohammed Azharuddin said that just as he always strived to give his best on the cricket field, he remains equally committed to serving the people of Telangana with dedication, honesty and sincerity.
The Minister stressed that constructive and responsible criticism is essential for good governance. He observed that objective criticism enables governments to identify shortcomings, improve public service delivery and strengthen democratic institutions. He appealed to media professionals to ensure that criticism remains fair, factual and aimed at public welfare.
The Minister appreciated the dedicated services rendered by TUWJF president M.A. Majid and the Federation for consistently raising issues concerning journalists and working for the welfare of the Urdu media fraternity.
He congratulated the organisers for successfully completing ten years of service and extended his heartfelt congratulations to all award recipients.
During the ceremony, the Minister, along with Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir, presented awards, citations, shawls and cash awards to distinguished journalists in recognition of their outstanding contribution to Urdu journalism. Several senior journalists and media personalities were also felicitated for their lifelong service to the profession.
The event marked a significant milestone in TUWJF’s decade-long journey of promoting Urdu journalism, recognising journalistic excellence and strengthening the voice of the Urdu media fraternity in Telangana.
