Hyderabad, Oct.2 (NSS): Union Minister G Kishan Reddy today paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi’s statue at Mahatma Gandhi Chowk on MG Road, Secunderabad on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
As part of the Swachh Bharat programme, the streets of Secunderabad Paradise, Kalasiguda Park Line Road were cleared by him. He spoke to the media on the occasion. He said on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the BJP government undertook the Swachh Bharat programme of the Narendra Modi government ten years ago and added that the program had been taken up with the aim of keeping surrounding areas clean.
“In the case of cleanliness, not only the governments, but also the cooperation of the people and their participation was also required. India is the largest country and crores of people are living in the country. People are likely to fall ill and that is why this program has been taken up with good intentions. Mahatma Gandhi had said independence would come at any cost but cleanliness needed first, he added. On the occasion, he called upon all sections of people to be a part of Swachh Bharat program and added that it was the responsibility of all to keep their surroundings clean.
“PM Modi has taken up this initiative with the aim of making healthy people in our country. Swachh Bharat is not a government programme, it should be seen as a people’s movement. This is the idea of The Father of the Nation Mahatama Gandhi. I want all to take forward Modi’s resolve,” he said.
