Regional Workshop on Foreign Trade Statistics to Kick off Tomorrow

Muscat, Feb 6 (ONA) — Muscat based GCC Statistical Centre will organize tomorrow /Sunday / a four-day Regional Workshop on Foreign Trade Statistics at the City Seasons Hotel Muscat under the auspices of Hamoud bin Sangour al-Zedjali, Executive President of the Central Bank of Oman (CBO).

 

     The workshop stems from the keenness of the GCC Statistical Centre to include this aspect. The foreign trade statistics were included among the top priority statistical projects within the planned roadmap.

 

 

      The workshop to be held, in collaboration with the Department of Statistics at the United Nations for the development of foreign trade statistics in the region to achieve a number of objectives, including training the participants in the compilation of foreign trade statistics (concepts and definitions) and the exchange of practices by different countries and the framework of the quality and evaluation of data on foreign trade statistics, among others.

 

     The foreign trade statistics represent one of the most important statistical and economic aspects that help to understand the movement and trends in foreign trade. They are also used for the development of trade policies, including fiscal, monetary, structural and sectoral related issues. They also serve as the entrance to compile macroeconomic statistics and national accounts in the first place and Balance of Payments Statistics. These statistics provide important information about the market for the business sector.

 

     A number of representatives of national statistical centers and the national customs administrations of the GCC countries and 10 countries of the Middle East will take part in the workshop.
