Hyderabad, Sept.26 (NSS): CPM State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram today said the Telangana State committee of the CPI(M) strongly condemned the efforts of the Hydra authorities to raze the houses and huts of the poor people living in and around the Musi river in Hyderabad for decades without showing any alternative or rehabilitation. He said the party was appealing to the State government to take up the work of demolishing the houses only after rehabilitating the poor first and not to put the poor in trouble in the name of Musi development.
“Hydra is currently conducting a survey and marking to demolish more than 2,000 houses of the poor in the FTL zone in Chaderghat, Moosanagar, Shankar Nagar and other areas of Hyderabad in the name of Musi river beautification. Most of these houses belong to the poor and weaker sections of the society who work as labourers and do other work in small shops. While there are some who have built huts due to poverty and financial constraints, there are some who have purchased land, registered them and constructed houses by taking municipal permission to construct houses,” he added.
He said there was a need to allot houses in the nearby areas where the poor live. “The government has given them double bedroom houses on the outskirts of Hyderabad city and it is practically not possible for the poor, who are working on a daily basis, to go. Therefore, the CPM is urging the State government not to take up eviction of houses without providing an alternative,” he said.
