Telangana develops long-term electricity demand strategy: Bhatti

Hyderabad, Nov.29 (RAHNUMA): Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated that, under the guidance of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the people’s government and the entire Cabinet have collaboratively developed extensive plans to address the electricity demands in Telangana.

He emphasised that these initiatives are designed to support the future growth necessary for the State’s GDP. Telangana is being fortified with aspirations to compete with some of the world’s most advanced nations. Aiming to transform the State into a 3-trillion-dollar economy by 2047, the government has established strategies for the power sector that align with this objective, Bhatti Vikramarka said.

Presenting a PowerPoint on the Power Sector at Praja Bhavan here on Saturday, the Deputy Chief Minister said the government is working to increase the per-capita electricity consumption, matching it with benchmarks in developed countries.

“Only when the productive sectors grow on a large scale, there will be massive output that contributes to the State’s GSDP. This is how our economy will grow to the levels we aspire. Ensuring the required electricity supply to key productive sectors—manufacturing, service centres, and agriculture—is a primary priority. Without adequate power, these sectors cannot generate output. Accordingly, the State government is planning to provide the necessary electricity for each of these sectors,” Bhatti Vikramarka said.

“We have formulated a comprehensive roadmap and are moving forward systematically. For Telangana to grow into a 3-trillion-dollar economy, the GSDP must grow at 30% annually. For such GSDP expansion, electricity consumption must increase by at least 10% every year. Based on these calculations, Telangana will need over 1,39,310 MW of power capacity by 2047. While this is the projected requirement, the State’s current installed power generation capacity stands at 27,769 MW,” Bhatti Vikramarka said.
