Forest officials told to crack down on synthetic manja sale

Hyderabad, Oct.9 (NSS):has directed officials to take stringent measures to curb the sale and use of prohibited synthetic manja and protect Indian rollers (Palapitta) and other wildlife.

He instructed officials to initiate steps to cancel the licences of shops found selling the banned kite strings. He was speaking at a review meeting with senior officials of various government departments at Aranya Bhavan on Friday.

Noting that synthetic manja was being supplied from other States, particularly Rajasthan and Gujarat, Vinay Kumar directed officials to intensify surveillance on supplies originating from these States. He asked Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to instruct shop owners not to sell synthetic manja and take stringent action against violators.

He also directed the police to strengthen surveillance to prevent the sale of Chinese manja through online platforms. Officials were asked to identify listings of synthetic manja on e-commerce websites and coordinate with the concerned organisations to stop such sales.

To raise public awareness about the ban, he instructed officials to put up posters at public places, including bus stations, railway stations, markets and other crowded locations.

Vinay Kumar asked the School Education department to sensitise students and their parents to the dangers posed by Chinese manja to humans and birds.

He further directed officials to advise bus drivers and conductors to alert the Forest department helpline if they noticed the illegal transportation of synthetic manja or the transportation of Indian rollers and other wildlife on buses. (NSS)
