Hyderabad, Sept.5 (NSS): In a statement, GHMC Commissioner today stated that on examining the past dog bite incidents, it was noticed that the small children of the construction workers are most vulnerable to the dog bites since both parents of the child will be going for work to earn their bread & butter leaving alone the child in the tent/temporary shelter and the availability of food waste near the tent / temporary shelters of the construction workers attracts the street dogs fetching for food thereby increasing the probability of dog bite incidents at the construction sites since the dogs being a carnivores have the basic instinct of biting.
It is stated that under Section 11 A (1) of the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 “Every establishment having fifty or more employees shall have the facility of crèche within such distance as may be prescribed, either separately or along with common facilities: Provided that the employer shall allow four visits a day to the crèche by the woman, which shall also include the interval for rest allowed to her”. Hence, in the interest of the public health & safety, it is proposed to ensure the availability of crèche facility in every establishment having fifty or more employees as per the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 to avoid the dog bite incidents near the construction sites in future. Therefore, all the Town Planning Staff of GHMC have been instructed to impose the following condition in the Building Permit Order issued to the applicant: “The Owner / Builder / Developer shall make availability of crèche facility in every establishment having fifty or more employees as per the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017 to avoid the dog bite incidents near the construction sites.”
Further, the Town Planning Staff of GHMC have also been instructed to sensitize the builders/developers of previously approved projects for availability of crèche facility in every establishment having fifty or more employees as per the above Act. The same will be ensured for implementation as part of public health & safety, Commissioner added.
